New Delhi: While the rest of the state reels under a Left-sponsored strike, a beggar strikes it rich the right way. Sounds unbelievable?
The nationwide stir called by trade unions may have succeeded in affecting normal life across the country, but it also affected the ‘normal’ life of a leprosy-afflicted woman Kerala’s Kozikode town.
The woman could not believe her luck when she was gifted a $10 note by a foreign tourist while begging at the railway station.
Even as the Mysore-bound tourist was left stranded, unable to find road transport to his destination, the beggar made good of her earnings when another passer-by offered her Rs 550 in return for the dollar.
Not knowing the system of exchange rates, the woman was only too happy to receive the bounty, but moved ahead only after carefully counting the Indian currency she had received.
