New Delhi: A Belgian embassy official was brutally murdered on Saturday night at Vasant Vihar, part of Delhi's posh diplomatic enclave. The police have now arrested the suspect, the murdered woman's driver – and are hinting that it was a crime of passion.
Vijay Pal Chaudhry, once a driver is now a murderer accused. He allegedly stabbed 47-year-old Isabelle Dessoir, between 0800 hrs, IST and 2100, hrs IST on Saturday night inside her flat. Vijay had been driving her car for the past two years and both shared a special relationship.
DCP, South West District RS Yadav says, “They had gone swimming in the morning they even had dinner plans. An altercation took place and he killed her."
Isabelle was murdered after an alleged argument with Vijay. At the crime scene there was, what looked like, remnants of violence. The police is verifying how close the two actually were. The Belgian embassy already seems to be distancing itself from the incident.
Belgian Embassy Spokesperson Jean Lee Villet says, “She had nothing to do with the embassy. She came here on an official passport and not on a diplomatic one."
The police claim they have detained and questioned many but most are keeping away certain key details.
DCP Yadav says, “There are many more details but we cannot reveal more.”
A reason for the murder is yet to be established. But theft, which was initial presumption, seems to be slowly getting ruled out. Why would a person stab a victim 22 times if the intend was simply to rub. It is a murder of a foreign national in an elite locality. Everyone would be waiting to see how quick the police actually is in making an arrest in this case.
Vijay has now surrendered to the police and investigations are on.
