Bangalore: Teams will start arriving in India this week for the World Badminton Championships from August 10 in Hyderabad.
The Belgium team though not a badminton powerhouse have arrived in India and are training hard at the Prakash Padukone Academy in Bangalore hoping to make a mark.
Belgian player Wouter Claes is busy practicing in Bangalore to be in the best possible shape for the World Championships.
He is one of four Belgian players in the city to train at the Prakash Padukone Academy.
It's been a week since they have been here and the Belgians are enjoying the rigorous practice sessions.
"Till now, we are really enjoying our stay here and we have found something that we can't find home that is a lot of players to play against. There is a big group and that is helping us out," said Claes.
Belgium are not exactly a powerhouse in the sport and has only a few professional players. So the chance to train at an international quality academy such as this one is a god sent for these players.
"Prakash and Vimal, both the coaches have made our life so easy here. Everything is ready for us and everything is prepared. They get the players to practice against us. We don't need to look for anything. Its all handed to us on a plate," said Belgian badminton team coach Alan Mcilvain.
Their test of course will come when the action begins in just over a week. But the players can surely look forward to some local support when they take to the courts.
