Larkana, Pakistan and New Delhi: It may be considered that Benazir was more or less reconciled to the fact that she may be killed in Pakistan, judging by her will.
Wajid Shamsul Hasan, who drafted the will, spoke to CNN-IBN from London and said that Benazir had drafted the terms of her will herself, after the first suicide attack in Karachi at her homecoming, which had claimed nearly 150 lives.
“The will was drafted by herself, when she went to Dubai briefly for a day, after the first attempt on her life,” said Hasan. “She was clear that something is likely to happen. So, she was mentally prepared to face the situation.
Hasan added that Benazir’s vision for Pakistan was clear and it was to concretise that vision she flew to Dubai to draw up her will.
“She was a very-clear-headed person and she had a vision for her party and for the country, so she must have put all those things together in the will, giving them (the PPP leaders) proper direction as to how to lead the party and how to conduct the affairs of the party, and also the family which was almost broken up and (is now) totally shattered,” he said.
Meanwhile, Benazir’s aide, Sherry Rehman has expressed a note of caution over Bilawal Zardari donning his mother’s mantle as PPP Chairman.
“It's really too early to say and even she, Ms Bhutto, said she herself was thrust willy-nilly into politics. It was not a life she chose, but the life chose her, really,” said Sherry. “It is not something we can choose for Bilawal, it's a life he has to choose for himself.
Though she clearly had some reservations because of Bilawal’s youth and inexperience, Sherry is hopeful that he would perform the task creditably.
“He has seen a lot of violence, he's young, he's just studying, he has a great future, I'm sure, in front of him. He comes from a great dynasty, a great clan. And he certainly has the makings of a wonderful young person,” she said.
