Bhutto knew the vision of Jinnah: PPP MNA

Islamabad: There's a general consensus that Pakistan would have been in more seasoned hands had Benazir Bhutto lived to lead the country in such troubled times.

The UN Human Rights Award was a testament to her international stature and standing.

“She was very committed to human rights issue and it was during her tenure that for the first time human rights ministry was formed,” PPP Member of National Assembly Fauzia Wahab told Dawn News.

Benazir's vision for a better and secular Pakistan was often said to echo the dream of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

“She (Benazir) understood the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and she tried her level best to implement his vision, but you know before she could enter politics, things had already been damaged beyond repair,” Wahab added.

Benazir Bhutto stands today as a symbol of democracy. She even had plans to hold elections within her party.

“Recently party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari Sahab has formed an election commission and I hope a meeting will take place and something will come out of it,” Wahab said.

Despite whispered criticism that Benazir loyalists have been visibly sidelined by the present PPP leadership, it's safe to assume for now that Peoples Party is still the party of Benazir Bhutto and that one year after her assassination Benazir is still alive, at least in spirit.
