Mumbai: Escaping the law proved easier for Avinash Bhosale than avoiding the glare of the media - unusual for a man who likes to strike a pose for the camera.

It was his flashy lifestyle and palatial properties and mansions that had caught the eye of the Anti-Corruption Bureau way back in 1998.

Says retired IPS officer, Shamsuddin Mushrif, "It was his exponential growth which brought us to suspect him. We wanted to know how he was securing all the tenders."

Official documents now in the possession of CNN-IBN clearly show how rules were bent to help Bhosale and his associate, Venku Reddy, get multi-crore contracts from the Maharashtra Krishna Valley Development Project.

Shamsuddin Mushrif who was then a superintendent of police in the Anti Corruption Bureau wrote:

'Other bids were disqualified to favour Pradhana constructions, in which Bhosale was a partner. Bhosale and his partners had the blessings of top corporate and Government officials.'

Armed with his report, Mushrif sought permission for an open enquiry against Bhosale but that permission never came.

Now that Avinash Bhosale has caught the attention of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, his past is likely to come under scrutiny with various agencies like the Income Tax and the Anti-Corruption Bureau likely to get into the act.
