On Monday, the first day of the two-day bandh call given by Naxals in West Bengal and Jharkhand, there were five attacks in Bihar and Jharkhand in a period of twelve hours. In Bihar's Aurangabad, a mobile phone tower was blown up and roads were dug up. In Jharkhand, suspected Naxals killed the director and the assistant manager of a coal mine and blew up a rail track between Bokaro Thermal and Jarandi Stations. Late last night, three trucks were set ablaze in Giridih.
West Bengal Chief Minister Budhodeb Bhattacharjee meanwhile met the Prime Minister on Monday to work out a strategy to deal with Naxals.
Just hours after Bhattacharjee pronounced three districts including Purulia as those under the complete control of the administartion, Naxals struck in Purulia. A police station was attacked and a CPI-M worker's house was gutted in fire.
In nearby West Midnapore district, Naxals shot one person dead.
An embattled West Bengal Chief Minister Budhodeb Bhattacharjee sought to keep Central forces on in the state
"I have told the Centre to please keep the 17 units of paramilitary forces here as there are interiors of jungles we need to reach," Bhattacharjee said.
"Without a coordinated operation with Jharkhand, there cannot be consolidated success," he added.
The chief minister also took a swipe at the man who is behind the battle in Lalgarh, a Maoist named Kishenji.
"That man Kishenji is not only a murderer, he is also a liar. He says he has spoken to me. I ask, when, who?"
