New Delhi: The Singur fiasco has sent the West Bengal government into a huddle. In a move to reach out to Tata Motors, Bengal Industries Minister Nirupam Sen said that he is going to leave no stone unturned to make the Nano project stay in Bengal.
“I'm extremely anxious about the Nano project. I have given a commitment to the Tatas that we will not take any land back either from the mother plant or the ancillary units,” Sen told CNN-IBN.
Speaking about brand Bengal and its image after the Singur episode, Sen said, “Sunday was no final agreement on land reallocation. Under the circumstances, it will be extremely difficult to make the project work. How can we have a good industrial atmosphere if we block highways? If Pantnagar or Pune plan to bring out Nano then Singur will be the loser.”
The Tata Motors authorities have said that the 997 acres of land is integral to the Singur auto cluster and no compromise can be made there.
Expressing distress at the land-for-land agreement between the West Bengal government and Trinamool Congress, Tata Motors sought clarification from the state government on what exactly transpired between the two parties at the Sunday meeting.
The government has now formed a four-member committee to look into the land dispute within and around the Tata motors' site. This committee will meet on Tuesday and has a week's time to submit its report.
