New Delhi: It’s Kannada film icon Rajkumar’s birth anniversary today. So, let’s take look at some of the icon's landmark films.

In a span of five decades he acted in over 200 Kannada films with some saying that his body of work constitutes one fourth of all Kannada films and many of these were silver jubilee hits.

Rajkumar's first film Bedara Kanappa released in 1954. The film told the mythological story about a hunter called Kanappa played by Rajkumar who offers his own eyes to Lord Shiva.

Rajkumar's co-star in the film was Pandari Bai, an actress who later went on to become one of the most successful female leads opposite the star. Bedara Kannappa completed a golden jubilee and ran for over a year in Karnataka.

One of Rajkumar's most popular films was Bangarada Manushya, which released in 1972 and was based on a novel by TK Rama Rao by the same name.

Bangarada Manushya follows a morally upright Rajiv played by Rajkumar whose pride and hard work overcomes all obstacles to make it big in life. Popular actress Bharati was the female lead in the film and it ran continuously for three years across the state.

Another Rajkumar superhit was Gandada Gudi, which revolved around a forest officer played by the star who fought against poachers and smugglers.

This film released in the 1970s was a big enough hit to inspire a sequel in the late 1990s. The second part had Rajkumar's son Shivrajkumar don the hero's role.

The icon's last film Shabdavedi, released in February 2000, went on to become a silver jubilee. Shabdavedi was also Rajkumar's come back film after five years of self-imposed exile.
