Better care for tuskers at Anakkotta ordered

GURUVAYUR: The Guruvayur Devaswom has initiated better care for tuskers at Punnathoor Anakkotta after the intervention of the Devaswom and Forest and Wildlife Ministers following media reports about the lack of waste management and medical care at the place.

The vet surgeons examined ailing tusker Guruvayur Padmanabhan and put it on additional medication. Vet surgeon Giridas, along with Devaswom vets T C R Nambiar and Vivek, examined the wounds on its front leg.

Devaswom Minister V Siva Kumar told Express that necessary directives had been issued to Guruvayur Devaswom administrator K M Raghuraman to ensure better care for the tuskers and to speed up the removal of waste and dirt from Punnathoor Anakkotta. Forest and Wildlife Minister K B Ganesh Kumar told Express that the district forest officer and wildlife vet surgeons had been asked to examine Guruvayur Padmanabhan.  Meanwhile, despite the directives given by the Devaswom Minister for the removal of waste from Punnathur Anakkotta, no action was taken on Friday.
