New Delhi: After many hiccups, Bharti Yadav, the key witness in the Nitish Katara murder case, finally deposed before the court in New Delhi on Thursday.

"We're not dissatisfied with her testimony. I don't think we need to call her again," says Special Public Prosecutor, B S Joon.

Refuting all speculation after Bharti's testimony was finally recorded on Wednesday, the prosecution came out smiling.

They claimed that Bharti's testimony had strengthened their case. But Bharti's lawyers had a different take on the entire issue.

"She denied giving any statement to the police, though she agreed that the photographs showing Nitish and Bharti together were clicked with her permission," says Defence Counsel, S C Buttan.

There are conflicting reports about Bharti's testimony from both sides, but if body language is anything to go by, then the defence did appear on the backfoot on Thursday.

The prosecution and the Katara family, on the other hand, walked out of the court with a smile, which can be interpreted as a smile of satisfaction.

Bharti reportedly told the court that she did share a special friendship with Nitish. When the defence cross-examined her about her affair with Nitish, she is reported to have said, "This is my personal life and I do not want to discuss it with public."

Though Bharti denied having presented the watch to Nitish, which was found on his body, she accepted having sent him the Valentine's day card, the photo album and the letters. She also accepted that they traveled to Mumbai together to celebrate a birthday party.

With Bharti's testimony, the three-year long struggle for the prosecution has ended. Both sides are claiming victory and it's only on Friday morning that it will be known if truth and justice have finally prevailed.
