New Delhi: For Neelam Katara, the court proceedings on Thursday were a huge step forward to get justice for her dead son Nitish.
Bank officials confirmed that key witness Bharti used money from Nitish's account to open an account. "The HDFC bank authorities testified that Bharti had used a cheque from Nitish's account to open her account in BNP Paribas," says public prosecutor BS Joon.
Bank records and the testimony of the bank officers corroborated the fact that Nitish and Bharti shared a very intimate relationship. Bharti had even used the residential address of the Kataras in her account-opening form.
"Obviously, if she has opened an account with our address, it is important. It is not that Bharti was in need of money from our family or Nitish, but they wer planning something for the future," says Nitish Katara's mother.
The prosecution now wants to cross-examine Bharti's sister Bhavana Yadav to complete looking for circumstantial evidence. Bhavana will depose on the February 21.
The testimony of the bank officers was a shot in the arm for the prosecution and now all eyes are on Bhavna's testimony with which the Nitish Katara trial might finally reach its end.
