Bid adieu to good old Appu Ghar

New Delhi: Much before water parks and I-boxes became fads, it was Appu Ghar that kept Delhi's kids entertained and now it may just be time to say goodbye to good old Appu.

Appu Ghar may have to shut down because that land has been given to the Supreme Court.

'My fair lady', 'Cups and Saucers' and 'St Columbus' for hundreds of children in the Capital these rides at Appu Ghar are unforgettable. But soon it may be time for them to bid farewell to these joyrides - Appu Ghar is shutting shop.

The park has to close down as the Urban Development Ministry has now allotted 90 per cent of the land it stands on to the Supreme Court last week.

International Amusement Limited VP SC Malhotra says,"They want to acquire land within seven km radius of the SC. It's not just Appu Ghar, which lies in that area."

Appu Ghar's management says that the Government has not offered them any compensation or alternative land. The Government has already revoked their rights to the land.

The management has approached the Delhi High Court against this decision. The Supreme Court Bar Association meanwhile says the land is ideal for expanding the apex court's operations.

SC Bar Council member KC Kaushik says, "In the given area, Appu Ghar best fits the Bill."

Appu Khar's management has made it clear that they will not take this lying down. They plan to appeal to the Supreme Court against the allotment.
