New Delhi: It's been a close race between television channels Star Plus and Colors in the last few months. But now, Colors has consolidated its leading position thanks to the brand value of the Big B himself.

As the pop philosopher on Bigg Boss 3 Amitabh Bachchan has given the show and the channel some stunning ratings.

Colors is currently number one with 338 GRPs, the highest ever by any Hindi General Entertainment Channel. Star Plus is number two and Zee is a close number three.

“Besides the big opening that Bigg Boss got at 4.6 and it peaked till about 6.8 on an average, which is very good opening for a third season. We're happy all the other soaps have also done well,” Programming Head of Colors Ashvini Yardi said.

Bigg Boss gave a good lead into Uttaran and Laddo. For soaps we've always had Balika Vadhu as the number one soap across all times, but this time we have a new number one Laddo so we're really happy that different shows are peaking and people are accepting fiction shows well,” Yardi added.

Since its launch just over a year ago, Colors has offered a heady cocktail of action hero Akshay Kumar, sultry Shilpa Shetty on Bigg Boss 2 and the little balika vadhu drawing in a huge fresh audience, along with the traditional saas-bahu watchers, forcing older rivals to rework their strategy.

And now with none other than Amitabh Bachchan in the audiences’ drawing room at 9 pm, Colors has managed to grab the eyeballs quite like the superstar’s first foray into television Kaun Banega Crorepati some years ago on Star Plus.
