New Delhi: The Big B's campaign for his elder brother, Mulayam Singh Yadav, on less crime with Uttar Pradesh did not cut much ice with the state's voters.
Now there are reports that Amitabh and his family actually themselves may have been committing jurm (crime) in UP.
CNN-IBN has learnt that Amitabh Bachchan's wife, actor Jaya Bachchan, has been found guilty of not revealing details of land which she and her family owned in UP at the time of becoming a Rajya Sabha MP.
The report - submitted to the UP Assembly - will now be forwarded to the Election Commission, a move which could endanger her membership to the Rajya Sabha.
Says former DM, Barabanki, Niteshwar Chaudhary, "I don't want to comment on this since the matter is still subjudice."
And then there are charges against the Big B himself:
- Amitabh Bachchan had bought more than two acres of land in Daulatpur village of Barabanki, UP.
- He had bought this land on May 11, 1983 claiming that he was a farmer.
- He is charged with submitting forged documents to prove his credentials as a farmer.
Villagers of Barabanki are incredulous to say the least. "Can you ever believe that Amitabh is a farmer," they say disbelievingly.
Sources close to Jaya Bachchan, however, say that the property in question is a disputed property.
The Bachchans had bought this property, but they didn't have possession of it. They got the possession four days after Jaya Bachchan became a Rajya Sabha MP.
An order giving them possession was passed by the District Magistrate, R Sahu. Sources also say that the property was not in Jaya Bachchan's name and that Amitabh had bought this property for his uncle.
The Bachchans as of today are the most visible supporters of Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh. At a time when the Samajwadi Party's arch rival - Mayawati - has taken charge of the state, Amitabh Bachchan may have to enact some reel life heroics in real life to bail himself and his family out of troubled waters.
