New Delhi: After creating plenty of buzz across the country, Ram Gopal Verma’s soon to be released film Nishabd now seems to be facing one controversy after another.
On Friday, people in Jalandhar staged a protest against the film, in which a 60-plus man, played Amitabh Bachchan, will be seen romancing an 18-year-old girlplayed by debutante Jiah Khan.
The protest was organised by the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP)’s Jalandhar unit, who claimed that the movie was against Indian culture.
"Amitabh Bachchan has grand children and he is romancing a young girl in the film that is beyond his dignity and against our social values. The message that the film will convey is contradictory to our society.
Hence, we are protesting against the screening of the film and we will continue our protest till the film is banned," ANI quoted General Secretary of Lok Jan Shakti Party, Punjab unit, Parminder Singh.
A few days, the film was caught in another controversies. The Delhi High Court, on February 21, issued a notice to Varma's RGV Film Factory for copyright infringement.
Bengali filmmaker Jahar Kanungo claims that he retains the copyright to the title Nishabd for 10 years since his Bengali film of the same title released in 2005.
After hearing preliminary arguments, Justice A K Sikri asked Varma, RGV Film Factory, Adlabs Films Ltd and Super Cassettees Ltd to file their replies to the allegations in the petition by March 23.
However, the Central Board of Film Certification had cleared the name for the film in June 2005, said the petition.
