Bangalore: Terrorist spills the beans

Bangalore: The tentacles of terror spreading to south India is something that’s been bothering the intelligence agencies for some time.

A daring attack on the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore and several foiled attempts later, police and sleuths are hot on the terror scent, with Bangalore being the focus of their attention.

They fear that India’s silicon valley is on the terror hitlist.

Just two weeks ago, the city police arrested a suspected arms supplier Imran who has revealed certain shocking details about several major terror strike in the country over the past two years.

The 34-year-old, arrested with weapons and grenades, is also providing Bangalore police with important leads.

“The fact that he has a satellite phone and is in touch with people in Pakistan shows a bigger network is supporting him. That's what we are trying to find out. To whom was he bringing these weapons, what are his plans, whether any connection with the incident at IISc, with people arrested in Mysore etc. So far, he's not thrown any light on this. We are hoping that through narco we'll get some information,” says Bangalore Police Commissioner, N Achutha Rao.

While there have been no more arrests, Imran’s links at Hospet in Bellary district are being probed and the forensic science lab has been asked to conduct more tests to establish them.

Sources also say the Karnataka Police have so far conducted secret raids in Gulbarga, Raichur, Hubli, Bijapur and Belgaum districts of the state.

“In all probability, we may seek some more days' custody. Indication of information is from early 90s, he is associated with these networks. He visited Pakistan for training and from early education, he had some links,” says Rao.

That Bangalore has been on the terror map is not new.

But police sources say Imran, the latest catch from the terror network, may lead them on to cracking several other cases related to terror attacks.

Therefore they are treating the information that has been confirmed now as just the tip of an iceberg that runs much deeper.
