Bangalore: Over the next five days aircraft from America, Europe, Russia and India will be fighting for airspace over the Bangalore skies.
A record 592 companies are participating in Aero India 2009 with more than half of them from foreign countries. In fact China is sending a delegation for the first time.
Secretary, Defence Production, Pradeep Kumar said, “This time we do expect HAL will export five Dhruv helicopters and send to Ecuador.”
India's homemade aircraft are generating a lot of buzz too. While the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas is likely to attract military enthusiasts, the indigenously developed helicopter Dhruv is getting the Hindustan Aernotics Ltd some serious money.
HAL is in talks with other countries after selling Dhruv to Equador in a Rs 250-crore deal. But that's not all. Some of the bidders for the world's biggest tender for fighter jets are also there.
"F-16 and F-18, MIG 35 and Typhoon are participating in this show. But this has nothing to do with MMRCA. It is M.O.D independent acquisition exercise and it is a Rs 40-45,000-crore order,” Pradeep Kumar said.
Some 50,000 business visitors are expected to attend the air expo and 500 B2B meetings have already been scheduled.
The economic crisis of the last few months won't be entirely wiped out but this air show could be a ray of hope to many sectors.
