Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is under attack from the Opposition after his government was blamed for the mismanagement during the Kosi floods that took place last year.
But Nitish has denied the allegations of mismanagement during the floods.
"I met the Prime Minister for the rehabilitation and development of areas affected due to Kosi floods. I demanded Rs 9000 crore special package for the area and the people living there" claims Nitish.
Although Nitish has often attacked the Centre on the Kosi flood issue but now his own government is under attack for the devastating flood.
The Principal Accountant General has in its report held the improper work by the state Water Resources Department responsible for the breach in the Kosi embankment.
A cornered Nitish Kumar government is now questioning the authority of the Principal Accountant General.
"PAG does not have the power to govern. If the report comes to me then I will see what action can be taken. But there can be no action based just on reports," says Bihar Water Resources Minister Bijendra Yadav.
There have already been accusations of misuse of flood relief fund.
It has over a year since the tragedy left more than 3 lakh people homeless and as the Assembly polls draw near, it could hit the Nitish Kumar government hard.
