Madhepura(Bihar): The Bihar flood has left millions homeless. Despite the rising waters, few families have chosen to stay in their houses and fight the flood.
Nand Kumar is one such person. His courage is commendable. His house is under eight feet of floodwater but he has made a difficult choice of staying home. When most of his neighbours, in the Rampur village of Madhepura, have evacuated the area.
Nand Kumar has been living with his family on his terrace for over a week. He says he does not want to leave behind the home, he had built for himself with his life savings.
“I love my House. I know it is tough, but how do I leave it and go away. This is not possible, “ says Nand Kumar.
However, he is not the only one. Small time businessman Sanjay has also chosen to stay behind. The rising waters of River Kosi destroyed his livelihood, but he refuses to leave his home at the mercy of the flood.
The Bihar floods have destroyed 2.5 lk homes and displaced over two million people. For many it has been a difficult choice, whether to relocate to crowded relief camps or to brave nature's fury in the questionable safety of their homes. With no signs of the flood waters receding, matters will only worsen for families who chose the latter.
