Madhepura: It is an embarrassment for the ruling JDU government in the flood hit Bihar. People are waiting in queues to get their share of free ration. But the relief disbursement register at Madhepura Town hall tells a surprising tale.

Sharad Yadav, the national President of Janta Dal United (JDU), has also received his quota of relief materials 100 kgs of food grains and Rs 2,250 in cash.

"Sharad Yadav’s bodyguard was here instead and he took away 50 kilograms of rice and wheat respectively,” says, local resident, Sanjay Kumar Rai.

Sharad Yadav a former Member of Parliament from Madhepura has a house in the city. But neither he nor any of his family members stay here. The house has been given on lease to a government corporation. However, his local representatives ensured that their bosses share of relief compensation isn't left out.

"His body guard might have used his muscle power," says, special relief officer, Mahendra Bharti.

As per government rule, every flood affected family is entitled to get 100 kg free ration, Rs 250 as cooking allowance and Rs 1000 each for buying utensils and clothes.

But this relief package is meant only for those families, who are staying here. Sharad Yadav is clearly not among them.

"This is wrong, at it shouldn’t happen," says local resident Nirjala Singh.

While lakhs of people in the state are still at the mercy of relief materials, such acts by men associated with senior political functionaries certainly dents the credibility of this entire relief operation.
