Patna: Kundan Prasad Singh's family was on Monday busy making preparations for Diwali when the news came from Mumbai that his son Rahul Raj was shot dead by the Mumbai Police.
Rahul, 25, was shot in a city transport bus in Mumbai by the police after he attacked the conductor and fired in the air, according to Maharashtra police officials. The officials in Mumbai said Rahul had raised slogans hailing Bihar and Patna.
But what the world saw of Rahul on television footage and what lies at his Patna residence is a complete contradiction – a rakhi greeting of his sister lying on the table of a room cramped with books and certificates. His past in no way confirms Rahul as a trigger-happy youth.
“The world has seen what is happening to people hailing from Bihar in Mumbai. An unbiased probe should be launched into the incident immediately,” Kundan Prasad said.
Rahul, who hailed from a middle class family, had recently passed a diploma course in X-ray technology. It was only a week back that he had left Patna to look for a job.
His neighbours remember Rahul as a studious youngster, having a good academic track record. They claim he had no political affiliation whatsoever.
For his friends and family, his new avatar – with a pistol in his hand and taking an entire bus to hostage – is something unbelievable to them.
“I have known Rahul since his childhood. He was like a younger brother. He was never into such kind of things that he would have to resort to violence. He was into modeling and had even done it for a sometime,” Rahul’s neighbour, Lalit Kumar, told CNN-IBN.
The Bihar government maintains that killing Rahul was a wrong decision. They said that the boy, who was carrying a country-made pistol, could have been easily arrested.
Meanwhile, the Bihar Police have rushed an inspector general, CID, to Mumbai to look into the incident.
ADG, law and order, Anil Sinha said, “In order to obtain details of the incident, we have decided that we send an officer, senior officer, IG CID Rajesh Ranjan to establish contact with the Mumbai Police.”
However, the state fears that the incident may further fuel the ongoing anti-Raj Thackeray agitation in Bihar.
