New Delhi: More violence rocked the Bhagalpur district of Bihar on Saturday morning where protestors destroyed a connecting bridge between Bhagalpur and Kahalgaon.
They also set on fire, a Government hospital. One person has died in Saturday's violence.
The Bihar Home Secretary and Additional Director General of Police have reached the spot.
Earlier on Saturday, police fired at the mob protesting against erratic power supply in the town. The protestors set ablaze a police jeep and damaged windscreens of dozens of private vehicles.
Official sources said the skirmishes broke out between the police and protestors at several places in the sub-divisional town, the worst at Pradhan Chowk close to the railway station with thousands of people taking to streets against meager power supply despite the town boasting of an 840 MW thermal power station of NTPC.
Police fired several rounds in the air and burst dozens of teargas shells after baton-charge failed to control violence and then fired on the crowd killing one person and critically wounding another, Deputy Superintendent of police D N Jha, — who was himself injured in stone throwing — was quoted by news agency PTI assaying.
Saturday's violence has taken the death toll to three.
