Patna: The body of 23-year-old of Bihari youth, Rahul Raj, who was gunned down by Mumbai Police on Monday, was cremated in Patna late on Tuesday night.
He was cremated in the night as police feared that if the cremation was done during the day, it may lead to violence.
Rahul was gunned down by the police after he fired on a local BEST bus injuring one person. Rahul allegedly hijacked a bus at Kurla saying he wanted revenge against the Raj Thackeray.
Rahul had apparently shot at and injured the conductor and a passenger on the bus.
His bullet-riddled body was handed over to his cousin and grandmother by the JJ Hospital authority in Mumbai after post-mortem on Tuesday and it reached Patna via New Delhi by an Indian flight at around 2100 hrs IST.
There has been wide-spread violence against North Indians in Maharashtra particularly Mumbai after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray blamed them for not respecting the local culture and snatching away jobs from unemployed Marathi youths.
The MNS and Shiv Sena had also attacked North Indian students a week ago who were to appear for a railway recruitment examination.
Following the violence in Maharashtra, students in Bihar also went on a rampage and ransacked railway stations and blocked rail traffic in many parts of the state.
