Mumbai: Bimal Roy’s film Madhumati turned 50 and a special screening of the film was held to mark its Golden Jubilee anniversary, which also marked the reunion of the cast of the 1958 classic.

And the occasion prompted the Bimal Roy foundation headed by Roy's daughter Rinki Bhattacharya to host a special screening of the film in Mumbai.

And the event saw one of the lead actors of the film, Vyajayantimala get nostalgic.

"Even after 50 years Madhumati is still evergreen. It is still very popular and I am happy to say that it is even popular amongst the youngsters. They come and tell me that the film was really beautiful,” says Vyajayantimala.

Some of Bimal Roy's films like Devdas and Parineeta have already remade, so how would the veterans react if Madhumati were reincarnated on the big screen with contemporary stars?

“Some classics should remain classics and should not be tampered with. The beauty, impact and ambience doesn't come out in the remixes,” says Vyajayantimala.

"Soha Ali khan told me that Saif her brother wants to remake Madhumati. I said what fun but you can't remake these classics,” says Bimal Roy's daughter, Rinki Bhattacharya.

We hope Bollywood gets the hint and leaves this classic as it is.
