New Delhi: Socialite Bina Ramani, a key witness in the Jessica Lall murder case, was on Thursday sent to four days police remand after she was presented in a Delhi court.
Ramani was arrested in Goa on Wednesday after a Delhi court issued a non-bailable warrant against her on Monday.
According to the police, Ramani had forged documents to claim that she was the owner of Tamarind Court in Qutub Colonnade in south Delhi and that she had a license to serve liquor there. Senior officials also said she had forged ration card and restaurant bills.
"In the four days of questioning, we may touch upon the issue of tampering of evidence by Bina Ramani," said a senior member of the special investigation team (SIT), which is investigating the murder of model Lall.
Ramani has been charged with tampering of the evidence after Lall was murdered in Tamrind Court on April 30, 1999. The ramp model was shot dead after she allegedly refused to serve liquor to Manu Sharma - the main accused in the murder - saying the bar had closed for the day.
Senior SIT officials said they suspect Ramani has hidden the property documents which they would try to recover during the questioning.
During the day, Viraj Datar, Ramani's lawyer, said his client was innocent and possessed all the legal documents of the property.
"My client was served seven notices by the police and she was present on all the occasions," said Datar.
Court proceedings stopped for a while when Ramani fainted in the court during the proceedings and a doctor had to be called in.
