India's first individual gold medallist in the Olympics, Abhinav Bindra, is on cloud nine after his latest victory. His euphoric parents who broke into an impromptu dance after hearing the good news say they have always supported him in his career.
AS Bindra and his wife Babli have encouraged Abhinav and even set up a shooting range at home for him to practice 24X7. CNN-IBN’s Jyoti Kamal met Abhinav’s parents and spoke to them about their shooting star.
CNN-IBN: What do you have to say about your son's victory?
Babli Bindra: I think he has put everyone's doubts in place and I'm proud of him. I'm sure the media and authorities will reconsider before saying that he is a spent force.
CNN-IBN: Before going for the Olympics, what were his feelings? Was he nervous or confident?
Babli Bindra: He's a very composed person and he doesn't show his feelings easily. But he just said before leaving, " I'll do my best."
CNN-IBN: Would you say this win makes Abhinav an even more eligible bachelor. As a mother what would you say about that?
Babli Bindra: Well, I agree that this makes him an even more eligible bachelor and I'm sure all mothers would feel that way.
CNN-IBN: And what does Abhinav have to say about his 'eligible bachelor' label?
Babli Bindra: I haven't spoken to him after he's become the first Indian individual to win a gold medal at the Olympics. But I think it’s a bit too early to talk about him getting married. He should first enjoy his win and when the time comes we’ll talk about that as well.
CNN-IBN: AS Bindra, what do you have to say the support that you have provided Abhinav with to reach these heights?
AS Bindra: Well, like every parent who wants his child to have the best, when I saw the talent in Abhinav. I had a belief that I would nurture that talent. And there was not looking back from there.
