Biographer denies writing about Imran-Benazir

New Delhi: Dr Christopher Sandford, the biographer who suggested the slain Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto and cricketer-turned- politician Imran Khan were romantically involved has now backtracked.

After speculations to this effect fueled by the book, The cricketer, the celebrity, the politician, Imran Khan the biography the writer Dr Sandford has denied any such reports ascribed to this unofficial biography.

"I have said in the book that the probability is that there was no relationship," said Sandford.

Reports suggested that Sandford, who interviewed Khan, claimed a source told him that former cricketer and Benazir Bhutto had a 'close' and possibly a 'sexual' relationship when they were students at Oxford.

"I'm actually not saying that they were together, I'm saying that there may be some gossip to that extent and I don't believe the gossip and I've said that very clearly in the book," said Sanford.

The so-called revelation had come as a huge surprise since Khan and Bhutto were always seen to be at political as well as personal loggerheads. Both Khan and Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party had contested these claims as a cheap publicity stunt. Now with Sandford denying the reports as well, the issue is supposed to be laid to rest, but not before creating enough buzz about the book.
