Biranchi murder suspect claims frame-up

Bhubaneswar: Seven IPS officers in Orissa have been transferred after allegations of a nexus between gangsters and a few policemen...

Of those transferred, three are DCPs from Bhubaneswar.

The action against these cops comes after the police commissioner of Bhubaneswar alleged a nexus between a few police officers in the state capital and gangsters. This comes after the man accused in the murder of child prodigy Budhia's coach Biranchi went underground.

The Orissa government on Friday also ordered the Lokpal (ombudsman) to probe into the alleged criminal-officials nexus that surfaced after the murder of Biranchi Das, former coach of marathon kid Budhia Singh.

It’s been more than four days since child prodigy Budhia's coach Biranchi Das was shot dead in Bhubaneswar.

While Orissa Police have failed to arrest main suspect Raja Acharya, CNN-IBN managed to track him down. Acharya spoke of Biranchi, actress Leslie Tripathy and an IAS officer eager to get him killed.

Wanted for the murder of Biranchi Das, the former coach of child marathoner Budhia Singh, gangster Raja Acharya says Biranchi and an IAS officer were threatening him, asking him not to harass TV actress Leslie Tripathy.

''The IAS officer threatened me that he will eliminate me and my family if he continues to bother Leslie Tripathy. Biranchi was also supporting him,” Acharya told CNN-IBN.

The officer in question, though, denies any involvement.

"I have no idea of any such negotiations between Biranchi and what's his name, yeah, Raja Acharaya,” said Commerce and Transport Secretary, Priyabrata Patnaik.

Raja, who has over 35 cases against him, does not admit to killing Biranchi, but says he is ready to surrender.

"I am ready to surrender if only justice is assured. If they are planning for an encounter, I will never come before the police," said Acharya.

Officials, however, point out that he's always obtained bail in the past and claim a nexus between him and some policemen.

It is believed that Raja felt there is a threat to his life as pressure was mounting on Bhubaneswar police to kill him in encounter and that is why he might have arranged for this desperate version of his on Biranchi's murder.
