Birahnchi suspect has history of intimidation

Bhubaneswar: More than 48 hours after child prodigy Budhia Singh's former coach Biranchi Das was shot dead, the main accused Raja Acharya is yet to be caught.

Biranchi's wife Gitanjali believes the gangster remains a threat to the family and hopes the government will act fast.

"Our only hope is on the chief minister. If he intervenes only then there are chances we will get justice," she said.

The Chief Minister on his part is promising quick action.

"It's a very unfortunate incident but let me assure you that the suspects will be nabbed soon,” said CM Naveen Patnaik.

But questions are being raised over the role of some policemen in the case. Reports say vital information is being passed on to the main accused. Police though deny any slackness in the probe.

"There are good, bad and ugly people in every field and we, too, have them. But I assure if we get a slightest evidence against them they will be treated as criminals not as people from our department,” said Bhubaneswar police commissioner, Binoy Behera.

High-level police sources have told CNN-IBN that even if Raja Acharya is arrested he would not be behind bars for a long time because he threatens the witnesses even from behind the bars. In such a situation, it's a big challenge for the police to put an end to the crimes of Acharya.
