New Delhi: Bird flu is spreading fast in West Bengal. The avian virus has been detected in two more districts of west Dinajpur and South 24 Parganas.
Culling will begin on Monday. So far 13 out of Bengal’s 19 districts have been affected by the disease.
Animal husbandry officials are battling to keep the virus from spreading to Kolkata, after it was detected in Howrah, just 10 km away.
Preventive measures are in place, though no human cases have been reported so far.
Neighbouring states of Bihar, Orissa and the northeast are on high alert.
Concerned state govts have issued prohibitory orders in areas bordering West Bengal, to prevent the entry of poultry by village roads.
