Birmingham: Asha Bhosle will soon have Birmingham eating out of her hands. The legendary singer opened her restaurant, Asha's, in the city after the chain’s success in Kuwait and Dubai.
Situated in the heart of Birmingham, the restaurant will toss up exotic 'desi' fare for the British palate. The singer spent three months developing a menu for the new restaurant, which will serve traditional Indian dishes and contemporary flavours. The menu also includes late singer R D Burman's favourite dishes.
“We picked up something from Punjab, something from Maharashtra, and by picking up bits and pieces from many places I prepared the menu,” says Asha.
Jamon, manager of the new restaurant, says the food will be the first, and not its celebrity tag, will draw customers. "People come for the celebrity for the first time to any places. But to get the customers back, you need to have the quality there. So we don't just rely on the name of Asha Bhosle, obviously she is very passionate about what she put up together here. It is not just a name for her. It's what she do."
Asha also plans to open three restaurants in the UK this year—Manchester, Leeds and London. Each site will be operated on a franchising basis. The network aims to introduce a new image for Indian restaurants as all day venues offering a new level of quality and service.
