New Delhi: Manji, the two-week-old Japanese baby from a surrogate Indian mother in Anand, Gujarat, was finally issued a birth certificate from Anand Nagar Palika after many bureaucratic delays. Baby Manji's 70-year-old grandmother is now quite relieved.
However, the Indian embassy still has to issue her travel visa so that she can travel to Japan.
Family friend, Kamal Vijavergiya said that they were trying to contact the embassy for the visa.
Manji was supposed to be taken home to Japan soon after her birth. Since her biological parents in Japan had seperated by then, the baby was left with nowhere to go.
Manji's father filed a legal notice against the Anand Municipal Corporation for not issuing her a birth certificate.
The certificate was issued after the state government’s intervened.
Chief Officer, Anand Nagar Palika J.M. Patel said that the certificate did not have the mother ‘s name but had the father’s name, which is Yamda Ekonomi
Since the certificate mention's the father's name, it would help the baby to travel to Japan and also help the father in getting custody of the child.
