Amman: Jordan's King Abdullah is on his first visit to India with IT on his mind. But in an exclusive interview to CNN IBN, the King warned that Palestine and Iraq if unresolved could herald another cycle of conflict in the Arab world.
Over the next two days King Abdullah will meet India's political leadership and explore business and trade linkages.
"Today between Jordan and India, I mean you take our phosphate and our potash. Indian businessmen looking at our Qualified Industrial Zones – FTA with the US. That's not really what I see as visionable relationship between our two countries. So hopefully by coming to your country, I shall have a better understanding of potential - when we have so much of potential," said Abdullah.
India will also be looking for an assessment from the King as to the situation in Iraq and the Palestinian territories.
"Regarding Iraq, I would like to put the clock back – over a long period of time, due to frustration, the core problem with Middle East surfaced. Israeli and Palestinian one is the emotional conflict, which I am sure you feel even as far as injurious because people run out of hope. And when you run out of hope, it is the limited variety that has the soapbox to be able to garner support and take the agenda forward," said Abdullah.
The king rejected the argument that his own position has been undermined by the growth of Islamic radicalism but there is little doubt that King Abdullah's agenda of political moderation and compromise has few takers in the region.
