New Delhi: The BJP set its agenda on the first day of the Monsoon Session that it would take up the two big issues troubling the UPA Government — terror and price rise.
And on Tuesday in the Rajya Sabha it plans to take on the Government on the Office of Profit Bill, insisting that its views match those of President APJ Abdul Kalam.
On Monday, stormy yet expected scenes in the Lok Sabha were witnessed and the Government was not willing to suspend the Question Hour but the House was finally adjourned for the day.
"They have gone back on their words. They disrupted the Question Hour and therefore question of taking another adjourned motion is not valid because the House is already adjourned," Parliamentary Affairs Minister, P R Dasmunsi said.
The BJP is likely to bring in another adjournment motion on the issue of internal security in the Lok Sabha but on Tuesday the political focus might just shift to the Rajya Sabha as it is likely to take up the Office of Profit Bill.
In fact, the Opposition has sounded the warning bell at the onset of the session, meeting President Kalam and endorsing his views on the contentious bill.
"Our advice to him (Kalam) is that by Article 143 he should refer the bill to the Supreme Court," BJP leader, L K Advani said.
With more than half a dozen Left MP's in trouble for allegedly holding offices of profit, the BJP feels that it can corner the UPA and its chief ally on the issue by taking a moral high ground.
So, it’s a clear flashpoint between the Opposition and the treasury benches in the days ahead.
