New Delhi: A day after the Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal addressed a Press Conference on Friday and blamed the BJP and accused the party of murdering the democracy.
"It's a pain to hear, none other than the Leader of Opposition blamed that debate was choreographed by the government and that it was the murder of democracy. I level this charge on them, " said Bansal.
Bansal also accused the Opposition of being guilty of stalling the proceedings for the simple reason that they didn't want the Bill to get passed.
Bansal accused the BJP of bringing in a large number of amendments only to see that the Bill is stalled.
Bansal stated, "If all amendments were to be accepted, Parliament would have been rendered into a laughing stock."
Bansal clarified that the UPA government wanted the Bill to get passed and that people were even accusing them of acting in haste.
The discussions were on, the government had an open mind but the Opposition was not ready to play ball said Bansal.
Accusing the BJP for not caring for the country, Bansal said, "The BJP doesn't want the government to succeed. They do not care about the country."
He also said that the UPA wanted to come with a strong law and tendering to different people is not the objective.
"Government has responsibilities, Opposition does act responsible and does not cooperate. The BJP only wanted to ensure that the government doesn't succeed," said Bansal.
