New Delhi: The apex Sikh religious body, Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) is on the defensive over its controversial decision to install the portrait of slain rebel Sikh leader Bhindranwale in Amritsar's Golden Temple.
It will meet various political parties in Chandigarh on Saturday to discuss the issue.
Bhindrawale, one of the main architects of militancy in Punjab, had led an armed movement in the early 1980s in the Golden Temple complex.
Various political parties like the BJP and the Congress are up in arms against the SGPC over its move to install his portrait.
Bhindranwale's son, SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar, Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti and other Sikh radicals attended the installation ceremony at the Sikh Museum in the Golden Temple.
