New Delhi: If yesterday, it was Commonwealth Games Organising Committtee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi versus Sheila Dixit, today it was the BJP versus the Congress.

The Income Tax (I-T) raids on late party leader Pramod Mahajan aide and BJP activist Sudhanshu Mittal in connection with the Commonwealth Games mess, has blown into an all-out political war.

The big question being posed by the BJP is why Sudhanshu Mittal has been targeted and why not Kalmadi, Sheila Dixshit and others respectively.

Rattled, the Congress hit where it hurts the most, the stature of the BJP President, a sore point which many in the BJP too find hard to defend.

"Neither do we take him seriously or nor do we consider it appropriate to react to his various comments from time to time", said Congress Spokesperson Manish Tiwari.

With the Parliament's winter session just a few weeks away, it was clear that the entire CWG scandal would peak in November. It is also generating some serious heat in the winter month.

For a party determined to extract maximum political mileage from the Commonwealth Games fiasco - raids at Sudhanshu Mittal's properties have only proved to be a major embarrassment, clearly the days ahead would require a fine balance of aggression and defence.
