New Delhi: After the defeat in the General polls, party members in the BJP have begun the blame game. The tug of war that members within the party are indulging in has become so intense that it threatens to tear the party apart along the sharp divide between the Vajpayee and Advani camps.
The two BJP stalwarts, Advani and Vajpayee have had a four-decade-old friendship that's always kept its tensions well hidden.
But now, when one of the two is in the winter of his life and the other is at the end his political life, the differences between them are being played out in public and by proxy.
The BJP, still groping for reasons for its dismal show in the Lok Sabha elections, is now divided between the Vajpayee loyalists and the Advani faithfuls.
The latest provocation is a letter by senior party leader Jaswant Singh, a known close confidante of Vajpayee and the letter is said to be critical of the party's current top leadership.
The latest flashpoint is how the letter got leaked to the media, the party has now asked for probe.
But Jaswant Singh is not isolated in his criticism. Like him, all the others speaking out against the party's top leadership are Vajpayee's men, including Yashwant Sinha and Brajesh Mishra.
Their target is the Advani brigade led by Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitely.
And there is of course a third group, watching mutely for the moment from the sidelines. Rajnath Singh and Murli Manohar Joshi are hoping that with some help from the RSS, that they'll come on top.
