BJP leader VK Malhotra is on Facebook to woo you

New Delhi: US president-elect Barack Obama seems to have shown the way to some of our politicians who are now taking the battle for the ballot online.

We have seen how Obama used the Internet in the race for the White House. Now, BJP's VK Malhotra also seems to think it's time for a change.

His campaign to get the Delhi Chief Minister's chair has gone online and on Facebook. And the campaign managers in the virtual world are Malhotra’s grandchildren.

“I thought I myself can't vote but at least create awareness among others,” Malhotra’s grandson Akshay Malhotra said.

The BJP leader’s community has 206 members to counter this online battle. Meanwhile, a Congress fan has also started a Facebook community, but it hasn't got as many members as Malhotra's community.

It is believed that the Congress is not taking the online campaign option as seriously as the BJP.

But going online could be the best way to attract the young first-time urban voter.

“Yes, my friend is a member of this group. I saw it there and read about it,” said an avid Internet user.

Whether or not these efforts help BJP win the elections, they will certainly help our nation's youth know our political arena better.
