Bellary: Police on Thursday launched a hunt for BJP leader and former Karnataka minister B Sriramulu in connection with an attack on a Congress activist and arrested the party MLC G Janardhana Reddy in this connection, a top police official said.
Reddy, a mines owner, was later released on bail, Superintendent of Police Amrut Pal said.
On Thursday morning, Sriramulu and his supporters, waylaid a Congress activist identified as Nani and assaulted him, causing serious injuries, he said.
When police rushed to the spot, Sriramulu fled and Reddy who was there was taken into custody.
The assault triggered tension in the Gandhinagar area. The injured has been hospitalised.
Sriramulu is contesting from Bellary (ST) Assembly constituency in the second phase of the elections, polling for which will be held on Friday.
