BJP MP beaten up by RPF personnel in MP

Beena, MP: BJP MP Virendra Kumar was critically injured after he was allegedly beaten up by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Beena area of Madhya Pradesh on Friday.

The incident occurred when local residents at Beena were protesting against the removal of encroachment from the Chhoti Bazar area. Later, Kumar who represents Sagar seat in Lok Sabha also joined them and had an argument with a local official on the issue.

As the arguments with the MP were going on some persons started pelting stones at the officials following which RPF jawans cane-charged them.

In the melee, some of the RPF personnel hit the MP with cane causing injuries in his head.

The 54-year-old MP from Sagar was bleeding and reportedly unconscious when he was rushed to Bhopal's Hamidia Hospital where he was kept under observation in the ICU.

The police say that they were trying to control the situation after a mob of angry shop keepers began pelting stones during the demolition drive. Director General of Police S K Raut has ordered an inquiry and asked the Inspector General (Railways) Aruna Mohan Rao to submit the report within three days.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against six Government Railway Police (GRP) personnels under Section 307 (Attempt to murder) and 147 of IPC.

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has promised action into the whole issue and has called a bandh in Beena area of Sagar district on Saturday.
