New Delhi: In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, Leader of the Opposition, L K Advani has confirmed what so far has been just speculation.
When asked if he will be the Oppositions Prime Ministerial candidate for 2009 elections, Advani said, “According to the British system, Leader of the Opposition is supposed to be the Prime Minister in waiting.”
Advani also said he does not expect former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to propose his name for prime ministership. "While I had given his name for prime ministership in the first place, I don't expect him to return that favour to me," Advani said.
The statement for many within the BJP is a renewed turf war between the Vajpayee and Advani.
“I won’t say anything on that,” said BJP Spokesperson, V K Malhotra.
BJP Spokesperson, Arun Jaitley said, “I don’t see what you are reading into the statement.”
“This should not be taken seriously. They are both our leaders,” says BJP MP, Sumitra Mahajan.
As for the Congress led UPA, often the target of BJP's criticism, it’s time to stand and enjoy.
"There’s a saying Dil Behlane Ke Liye Khayal Accha Hai Ghalib (It’s a nice way to pass your time,” says Minister of State, Finance, Pawan Bansal
The comments are understandable when the top two leaders Advani and Vajpayee take each other on.
