Jammu: Convenor of the Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti, Leela Karan Sharma was the force behind the three-month long Amarnath agitation in Jammu last year. He being a right-wing activist had reiterated his apolitical credentials during the land row but now as elections are round the corner he says he was always a BJP man.
“BJP remained a supporter throughout and I myself was a member of the BJP. They were actively supporting me and they were a part and parcel of the agitationm” says Leela Karan who is BJP’s candidate from Jammu-Poonch seat.
With his political affiliations out in the open, Leela Karan has resigned from the convenor's post and the Sangharsh Samiti is once again struggling to distance itself from political affiliations.
“If the man who was the convenor has suddenly realised that his BJP connection are important then he has to resign from the Sangharsh Samiti. We are still reconciling with his decision to contest,” says Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti spokesperson, Dr Jitendra Singh.
Meawnhile, with this Amarnath card up its sleeves, the BJP now is looking to stir both the regional and religious sentiments once again.
