BJP will rework N-deal if voted in: Yashwant Sinha

CNN-IBN

Former foreign minister and senior BJP leader, Yashwant Sinha says the BJP will renegotiate the Indo-US nuclear deal if it were to come to power. Sinha said this in an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN’s Karan Thapar on Devil’s Advocate.

Following are some excerpts:

Yashwant Sinha: If the deal were to go through in its present form, which we had decided was unacceptable then obviously, it flows from it. Logically, that we'll reconsider and renegotiate.

Karan Thapar: But let me be specific, who's "we" when you say "we” consider?

Yashwant Sinha: "We" is the senior-most leadership of the BJP.

Karan Thapar: Including L K Advani?

Yashwant Sinha: Yes, including Mr L K Advani who considers our responses to a developing situation.

Karan Thapar: So, you are saying to me that L K Advanni is party to a decision that you will reconsider the deal if you come to power particularly if it goes through in its present form.

Yashwant Sinha: Absolutely. And with the present government were not to renegotiate, we'll renegotiate.

Karan Thapar: To be honest, what you will be doing is adding two and two and coming to four, he hasn't quite said it in the same way. You're saying this is the implication that logically flows from the position he's taken on other issues. And the fact that he was part of this leadership meeting that found the deal unacceptable. You're interpreting him..

Yashwant Sinha: No, this is absolutely correct, there's no other way of looking at it.
