New Delhi: A party aspiring to form the next government in the world's largest democracy is going through an ego tussle between the two men who matter most.
One month before the General Elections, when candidates have to be chosen with care, Arun Jaitley, BJP’s man in-charge of key states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has gone on protest leave.
Six days after he went into his now famous sulk, the party just doesn't know what to do. Jaitley insists he won't attend the meetings till Sudhanshu Mittal -- appointed as in charge of northeast by party president Rajnath Singh -- is removed from the post.
While party’s prime ministerial candidate L K Advani is dismissing the Jaitley-Rajnath Singh face-off as a small matter, he knows it is not for long that this can be done.
The RSS has been watching this confrontation from a distance. The Sangh envoy Suresh Soni has also not been able to come up with a breakthrough formula.
This face-off could have been put off, at least for now. This was the time for the second rung to throw their weight behind Advani.
But this battle has been brewing for some time now. It’s a fight to decide the successors of M/S Vajpayee and Advani -- Rajnath-Sushma on the one hand, Jaitley to some extent with Modi on the other.
