Avoiding someone's call? Blacklist them

Mumbai: Trying to avoid an old boyfriend or a disapproving mother-in-law or a nagging boss? Well, here is an easy way out to block their calls.

Hutch subscribers can now dial 55144 and create a blacklist of calls. If a caller from a blocked number calls, he will receive a message — 'Create a blacklist by barring the phone numbers from which you do not want to receive calls'.

This call filter can help you block unwanted calls.

However, this may not be a fool-proof solution for calls from banks trying to sell you loans or credit card companies.

It may be difficult to identify all call center numbers from across the country, but nonetheless, this service will definitely reduce the number of spam calls.

The last such mobile offering, the 'Do Not Disturb' service where a subscriber could call and ask the mobile company to block a number, was not very popular since mobile companies couldn't identify and block most spam calls.

This time, it may be more effective since the subscriber himself can block numbers.
