Guwahati: Barely a few hours ahead of the scheduled visit of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to Assam, a blast rocked the state's Tinsukia district late on Friday night, killing one person.
Police said the blast took place at Philobari in Tinsukia district, over 500 km away from Guwahati.
Police said that the bomb was planted in front of the house of a Congress leader and that it killed one person on the spot. The deceased was however, yet to be identified, police said.
Gandhi was scheduled to arrive in Assam's main city Guwahati Saturday morning to attend the official function of the first anniversary of the third successive term of Congress government in the state.
