Mumbai: When a Mumbai court pronounced the verdict on those guilty in the 2003 twin blasts case, a quiet celebration swept through Mumbai's Zaveri Bazaar, one of the blast sights and a bustling commercial hub.
But the celebration was not without a hint of skepticism and behind most smiles, there lingered doubts.
"I am sure they won't be hanged till another 10 years,” says Deepak Vadhani, a man who was injured in the blast.
Another, eyewitness Rajesh Sankla said he wouldn’t trust the verdict until the guilty are actually hanged.
On the street where one of the bombs went off, scars and shock remain. Juice shop owner Wasiq Khan's eardrums were damaged in the blast. He says justice has taken too long in coming.
“What they did deserved instant punishment. The judgement took too long,” he says.
Victims like Ramu Patil, who lost an eye, are still waiting for rehabilitation.
“After the blasts, ministers assured us of help. No one has returned with any compensation,” he says.
Not just skepticism, there are also fears that a similar tragedy could happen again as they say that the security situation has not improved here in the last six years.
