Hyderabad: The Nizam College grounds in Hyderabad are decked in pink, the Telanagana Rashtra Samiti's flags are fluttering everywhere and party supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao's cutouts are numerous.
But the venue was not booked for a party meeting. It is the venue of a five-day long cultural meet on Telangana.
Says K Chandrasekhara Rao, "Telengana is rich in its culture, but over the last five decades the excellence and culture of Telengana had been suppressed. This is nothing but renaissance of the Telengana culture."
Telengana Sambaralu encompasses all aspects of the region, from its history, to food, dance and music.
The festival could help the TRS in its political battle for a separate Telangana state, yet, politicians from across party lines, are making a beeline for it.
Says Congress MP, Madhu Yashki Goud, "The function may have been organised by the TRS, but it has been organised to represent and showcase the Telengana culture, Telengana habits and how people live there. These are the things that I have grown up seeing. It brings back my childhood memories."
Telengana Sambaralu is no doubt bringing the region's forgotten flavor into the limelight. TRS leaders say they will try and organise the festival every year from now.
